YMCA Free Healthy Kids Day 4/28 (10am - Noon)

The 2012 YMCA Healthy Kids Day in Marion is Saturday, April 28th from 10am - noon.  Admission is FREE to the public & they will be having activities going on.  Other communities are running similar promos all during April, but check with your local YMCA for the exact date & time. 

We are members at the YMCA, and we LOVE it!  We take advantage of the free childcare while my husband and I work out, the discounted kids sports, and  the pool for the whole family.  Have you been thinking about joining?  This is your chance to check it out... for free! 

Got Drugs? Medicine Collection Event April 27-28

The Marion Police Department, along with Marion Utilities, is holding a medicine collection event  this weekend for SAFE disposal of expired and unused medication.

Friday, April 27th from 6pm -8pm
Saturday, April 28th from 11am - 2pm

Event is at the municipal building parking lot in downtown Marion. 

Did you know that...

• Unused or expired Rx medications are a public safety issue (leading to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse?)
• Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription/doctor's supervision?
• The non-medical use of Rx drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America?
• The majority of teens abuse Rx drugs by getting them from family & friends' homes?
• Unused Rx drugs throw in in the trash can be retrieved and abused or sold illegally.  
• Unused drugs that are flushed down the toilet contaminate the water supply 
• Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

Note: all containers will be destroyed along with medications, so you can just drop the whole container off.

Earth Day - Sunday, April 22, 2012 - FREE Entrance into Nat'l Parks all Week!

Monday, April 23 is Earth Day, and in honor of Earth Day the National Parks are offering FREE entrance into over 300 National Parks through April 29th.  For more info, click HERE.   

Not near a National Park but want to do something to celebrate Earth Day?  Here is an idea... how about a clean-up day in your neighborhood?  My neighborhood association sponsored a clean-up day for our neighborhood this weekend, and it was a GREAT opportunity for my entire family to walk around and pick up trash while teaching my kids respect for the Earth, and for our neighbors.  A lesson I'm hoping will stick with them! 

Another idea... visit your local library.  I know that the Marion Public Library (and I'm sure many others) have GREAT books and exhibits out for Earth Day.  Learn something new.... and teach your kids too!

The Grand Cupcakery - Free Tasting Saturday, April 21 in Marion

  Tomorrow, Saturday, April 21st in downtown Marion the Grand Cupcakery, a cupcake bakery (currently run out of someone's home) that is trying to get started in Marion is having a cupcake tasting event from 10:00am until 5:00pm.

   

   

• Where?   5th and Washington, Marion IN (across from the Centrum Mall in downtown Marion)

• Who? Everyone in and around Marion, Indiana that likes cupcakes! Details? They will be serving mini sized cupcakes in 4 flavors to help promote our yummy cupcakes. Everyone can sample a free mini cupcake in each flavor. If you would like to take some home, they we will sell a 4 pack for $2.   I don't know much about this place, but have seen it on Facebook... I'm excited to try it out!  (sorry I'm having formatting issues with the bullets on this post!)
