FREE DONUTS: At Krispy Kreme & Dunkin Donuts & Various Other Donut Ships Nationwide
The end of May means that National Donut Day is almost here. That’s right, it’ll soon be the first Friday in June, when donut shops large and small throw open their doors and start handing out those dough-y bits of goodness…for free!
The biggest players in the game are Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme, both of whom will once again be giving out free donuts this year. At Dunkin Donuts you’ll have to purchase a beverage to get the gratis goodie (bottled sodas don’t count) while at Krispy Kreme you’ll have your pick of donuts without any purchase. On the regional level Lamar’s will also be handing out free donut holes. But make sure to check in with your favorite local or regional donut outlet, too, as they may have their own giveaway planned.
Though it sounds like a totally made-up holiday, National Donut Day is actually legit. It was begun in Chicago in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
As with every dining deal, make sure you call ahead to check with your local restaurant before heading out. “At participating locations” means just that!
