Juneteenth Celebration Schedule of Events in Marion (6/14 - 16)

This weekend is the Juneteenth Festival in Marion at the Clarence Faulkner Commuunity Center (1221 W. 12th St) with a three-day fair featuring rides, concessions, games, live music, health fair, speakers, and a 5k Run and 2 Mile Walk.

Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating June 19th, 1865, the date the Union soldiers reached Galveston, TX  (2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation) with news that the war was over and slaves were now free.  Fore more info, click HERE

The Juneteenth Festival in Marion is open to the public - check out the schedule below for a sampling of events.  Hope to see you there!

Thursday
11am - 4pm - youth workshops for youth up to 17 years old, lunch provided
4pm- 6pm - viewing of the movie Red Tails
6pm - youth explosion, showcasing gifts and talents of local youth

Friday
12 - 2pm -  viewing of Red Tails
3pm-6pm - line dance for your health (with DJ)
7:30 - 9:30pm - Jazz & BBQ

Saturday
8am - 5K Run& 2 Mile Walk
10am - noon - health bunch with speakers on health from the community
noon - health fair and MGH health screening
noon - 2pm - viewing of Red Tails
noon - 1pm - ZUMBA fitness class
2 - 8:30pm - Gospel Showcase
2pm - Ceremony with Mayor Wayne Seybold
2:15pm - "I have a Dream" speech
And the rest of the day until 8:30pm is various musical artists and festival festivities

  1. Your husband can't let this one go... June 1865 was two *months* after the Civil War ended and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation (not that the Emancipation Proclamation actually freed any slaves...)
